Miley Cyrus: is it the end for Hannah Montana?
To the dismay of her young fans, the 15-year-old star has signalled that the next season is probably the last.
Cyrus has been playing her pop star alter ego since the age of 11 and is keen to take her career in a more mature direction.
"We're thinking this is our last season," the teenager told E! News, explaining that working on the show has been tiring: "I just think we did a lot of episodes. We basically did two seasons in one season last year. Usually people would do one season that would be 16 episodes, and we did almost 30 episodes."
Disney could not confirm or deny whether the show will end after this series. "We start production on the third series of Hannah Montana on August 4 and have an option for a fourth season beyond that. We look forward to the Hannah Montana feature film coming to a theatre near you in spring 2009," a spokesman said.
Cyrus, daughter of country music star Billy Ray Cyrus, has turned the Hannah Montana franchise into a billion-dollar earner. She has weathered the Vanity Fair scandal - the teenager was forced to apologise to fans after posing for a semi-topless photoshoot - and is currently promoting her new album.
In a separate interview, Cyrus revealed that Coldplay's Chris Martin is her dream man.
She described the singer as "so hot" but sadly too old for her.
Her ideal man would be "a 16-year-old version of him" - her mother does not allow her to date anyone over the age of 17.
"It's seventeen, tops. Eighteen is just a little too old. It's kind of illegal," Cyrus conceded.
In an interview for a US radio show, the Hannah Montana star said she would settle for a man with "dark hair, preferably kind of tall, who likes Coldplay and plays the guitar".
Martin, 31, husband of actress Gwyneth Paltrow, surprised many recently when he came out as a Miley Cyrus fan.
"I like Miley Cyrus. I like the TV show," he said, adding that he would happily share a bill with her: "I'd do it. Anyone we like or respect, no matter how different they may be, we would play with. She's doing something quite different... I just think she seems to have a sweet character."
