Universal Licenses New Miley Album For Europe
Universal Music Group (UMG) has licensed Miley Cyrus’ U.S. No. 1 album “Breakout” from Disney Music Group’s Hollywood Records for distribution in Europe.
The agreement was announced yesterday (Aug. 7) by executive VP UMG International Max Hole. The 15-year-old pop vocalist and TV star’s previous albums as Hannah Montana were distributed by EMI Music in Europe.
“Breakout” debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 last week (July 30) with sales of 371,000 and its two-week total in the U.S. is 534,000, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
Promoted as her first album outside the “Hannah Montana” Disney Channel TV show, “Breakout” will be released in Europe by Universal Music and by Polydor Records in the U.K. on Sept. 1. It will be preceded by the first single “See You Again” on Aug. 25.
“Hannah Montana 2: Meet Miley Cyrus” and “Hannah Montana” have achieved gold status in the U.K. according to Disney Music Group. The “Best of Both Worlds” live album peaked at No. 69 on the European Hot 100 in May.
